The pin of the charger works really well, but the actual adapter is a little bit loose where the cord is plugged in. If the cord to the adapter is pushed in correctly, it does not charge the laptop. This is the second "off-brand" charger for our Pavillion dv4 that does not charge the battery. It does provide power to the laptop (with or without the battery in place), but the battery stays at 0%. We bought a genuine HP charger at Best Buy ($80 - ouch!) which works perfectly for cord power and battery charging. Maybe for less than $10 you want to try it, but ours was a waste of time and money.
